All aboard! 250 Express: An American Piano Journey takes you on a spirited excursion of piano music by U.S. composers. Through solo and four-hand works from the 1800s to the present day, pianists Melody Puller and Dr. Matthew Goodrich make 12 distinct station stops across the American musical landscape.
The piano has been America's instrument from our nation’s early days, a medium through which composers found their unmistakably American voice. Each piece creates a distinct world, each composer staking a claim in the ongoing discourse about what American music sounds like.
The program departs with Copland’s Hoe-Down from Rodeo, then travels through music by Gottschalk, Griffes, Beach, Walker, MacDowell, Barber, Menotti, Bolcom, Glass, and Antheil before arriving at its final destination—a tour de force Wizard of Oz Fantasy for two pianists.
